The Wichita County Indians will be playing at home against the Clifton-Clyde Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Wichita County sitting on 22 straight wins dating back to last season and Clifton-Clyde on three.
Wichita County stacked a ninth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 54-0 win over Kiowa County. Given Wichita County's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Kiowa County is ranked 65th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wichita County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Wyatt Gardner out in front who threw for 167 yards and four touchdowns while completing 90% of his passes, and also picked up 37 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Cashton Young, who gained 136 total yards and four touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Wichita County's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Christopher Michel.
Meanwhile, even though Hill City scored an imposing 78 points on Friday, Clifton-Clyde still came out on top. Clifton-Clyde snuck past Hill City with a 84-78 victory.
Wichita County's victory was their 11th straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 9-0. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 54.27 points. As for Clifton-Clyde, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.
Wichita County strolled past Clifton-Clyde in their previous matchup back in November of 2019 by a score of 54-38. Will Wichita County repeat their success, or does Clifton-Clyde have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
