The La Canada Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the South Pasadena Tigers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. La Canada's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so South Pasadena's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
La Canada proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 12) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Pasadena 5-3.
Fritz Phillips looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Will Park was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for La Canada: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Benji Geller, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, South Pasadena came up short against Rocky Mountain on Thursday, falling 9-3. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
South Pasadena also got a good showing from Gabe Vogel, who tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Aaron Kawasaki was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
La Canada has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for South Pasadena, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.
La Canada was able to grind out a solid victory over South Pasadena in their previous matchup back in March, winning 11-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
