Fergus won the last time they faced Custer County and things went their way on Friday too. The Golden Eagles blew past the Cowboys 48-14. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Montana football rankings (they are ranked third, while the Cowboys are ranked 31st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Custer County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jake Phalen, who picked up 139 receiving yards and one score. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylin Gentry, who picked up 95 receiving yards and one TD.

Fergus has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 32.5 points this season. As for Custer County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fergus is headed away from home for the first time to square off against Dawson County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Custer County, they will head out to challenge Havre at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
