The Mercyhurst Prep Lakers entered their tilt with the Girard Yellowjackets with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Mercyhurst Prep snuck past the Yellowjackets with a 56-52 victory on Friday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Mercyhurst Prep's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 267th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 112th).
Craig Buckner was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with seven rebounds. Maddox Brzuz was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five steals.
Mercyhurst Prep has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. As for Girard, their loss ended a 14-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 16-2.
