Camarillo is a perfect 7-0 against Dos Pueblos since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Camarillo Scorpions will face off against the Dos Pueblos Chargers at 3:30 p.m. Camarillo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Camarillo barely beat El Camino Real the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Camarillo put the hurt on El Camino Real with a sharp 8-1 win on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Scorpions.
Belle Sotelo was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Cali Howe, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Sotelo wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Camarillo lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Dos Pueblos had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victor by a 13-2 margin over Pacifica on Tuesday.
Kaitlyn Ashby made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anastasia Brunner, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Zella Cassidy was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Camarillo's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Dos Pueblos, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-6.
Dos Pueblos' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Camarillo has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Dos Pueblos, though, as they've been averaging 9.8 hits. Given Camarillo's sizable advantage in that area, Dos Pueblos will need to find a way to close that gap.
Camarillo took their victory against Dos Pueblos when the teams last played back in March of 2020 by a conclusive 10-0. Will Camarillo repeat their success, or does Dos Pueblos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
