Softball Recap: Granbury Comes Up Short

Granbury's last matchup with Brewer could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Tuesday. The Granbury Pirates came up short against the Brewer Bears, falling 18-8. The loss continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Bears: they've now lost nine in a row.

Preslee Carnes and Morgan Johnson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Carnes scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Johnson scored a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, Johnson posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Carli Carlton was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Even though they lost, Granbury was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Granbury's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9-1. As for Brewer, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season.

Granbury will look to defend their home field on Friday against Aledo at 7:00 p.m. Aledo's pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so Granbury's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Brewer, they will head out on the road to challenge Azle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Azle has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.54 runs per game on average), something Brewer will no doubt try to take advantage of.
