After a string of four wins, the Independence Falcons's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. Their tough 68-46 loss to Bakersfield Christian might stick with them for a while. Independence has struggled against Bakersfield Christian recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Independence's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josslyn Escobar, who scored 18 points along with four steals and three blocks. It was the first time this season that Escobar posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylynn Bolden, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Bakersfield Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alexis Bila, who scored 15 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Bila hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Sara Shein, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Independence's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-12. As for Bakersfield Christian, they pushed their record up to 21-7 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
