Baldwin got a great performance from Lilly Hubbard as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit over five innings pitched. What's more, Hubbard posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Kendall North was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Rylan Gray, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.
Baldwin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clay only posted a batting average of .067.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Columbia challenged Baker County on Thursday. Columbia fell just short of Baker County by a score of 9-7. The loss was the Tigers' first of the season.
Emily Delgado stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Kimber Long was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Having lost for the first time this season, Columbia fell to 2-1. As for Baldwin, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.
Columbia's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Baldwin has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Columbia, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Baldwin's sizable advantage in that area, Columbia will need to find a way to close that gap.
Baldwin took their victory against Columbia when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 9-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Baldwin since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
