The Poquoson Islanders will square off against the New Kent Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Poquoson will come into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
On Friday, Poquoson made easy work of Bruton and carried off a 21-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Islanders, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.
Natalie Klochak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Poquoson got a massive performance out of Alyssa Laney, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-5. Those two home runs gave Laney a new career-high. Sierra Morse also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Poquoson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, New Kent didn't have quite enough to beat Warhill on Friday and fell 5-3. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cassidy Branch made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenley Rowe, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Poquoson's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for New Kent, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 6-3.
Poquoson's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. The Islanders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for New Kent, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Poquoson continue to outrun the ball?
Poquoson suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to New Kent when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Islanders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
