Collins is a perfect 3-0 against Bullitt Central since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Collins is taking a road trip to challenge Bullitt Central at 5:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
While Collins didn't have the best season last year (they finished 16-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They never let Southern get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Tuesday. The Titans haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Nolan Faulkner and Quinten Wooten did most of the damage at the plate: Faulkner scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Wooten scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances. That's the most runs Wooten has posted since back in April of 2024. Carter Poole also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Collins always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern only posted an OBP of .222.
Meanwhile, Bullitt Central faced Butler in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Bullitt Central was the clear victor by a 10-0 margin over Butler. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Jordan Powell and Henry Zimmerman made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Powell struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Zimmerman pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Powell has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Powell went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Zimmerman scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anderson Smith, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Taylor Coffman, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Bullitt Central pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Collins, their record is now 4-1.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Collins has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .496. However, it's not like Bullitt Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .529. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Collins skirted past Bullitt Central 3-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Collins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
