Mineral County has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Pyramid Lake Lakers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mineral County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Lakers are ranked 15th).
Last Tuesday, Mineral County was the victim of a tough 35-10 loss at the hands of the Bulldogs. Mineral County has not had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the loss, Mineral County had strong showings from Jayona Kimmins, who scored two points along with 14 rebounds and five steals, and Jazmin Serrato, who scored five points along with four steals and three blocks. It was the first time this season that Serrato posted two or more blocks. Aleecia Majano was another key contributor, scoring no points along with six steals.
Meanwhile, Pyramid Lake had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 41.3 points), and they went ahead and made it nine on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Sierra Sage Academy/Right Of Passage 67-26 on the road. Pyramid Lake has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 25 points or more this season.
Mineral County has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for Pyramid Lake, they pushed their record up to 17-4 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road.
Mineral County was taken down by the Lakers 71-6 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Mineral County was down 52-4.
