Section 5 Monroe II recap September 17, 2013
Irondequoit moved up to 356 from 415 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Section 5 Monroe II. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of losing to Brockport 14-10.
The Blue Devils and Irondequoit played the most contested game in the league this week, with the Blue Devils eventually emerging with a 14-10 victory.
Trent Maurer was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 69 yards on 8 carries as Penfield fell to Greece Athena. Jake Paladino also contributed to the rushing game with 40 yards on the ground.
John Iacucci threw for 251 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was 15-22 with 1 interceptions.
Dominic Speranza was a key player and the best on defense this week as Churchville-Chili topped Greece Arcadia. The 5-foot-8 senior.
Maurer was the best wideout in Section 5 Monroe II this week as the Patriots fell to the Trojans. Maurer racked up 5 receptions for 108 yards. Triloni Salmon helped Penfield's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 47 yards.
Iacucci put up the best numbers through the air as the Saints defeated the Titans. Iacucci's favorite target this week was Austen Correia, who caught 5 passes for 100 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Churchville-Chili's Iacucci and Correia have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Iacucci has thrown for 505 yards this season, while Correia has 10 catches for 307 yards. Maurer from Penfield leads the league in rushing with 156 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Brockport takes on the Saints. At the moment, the Blue Devils are in third, while Churchville-Chili is in second.
The Saints took down Greece Arcadia 40-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Iacucci ran for 52 yards during the win.
