The Buena Bulldogs were the 72-61 winner over the Ventura Cougars when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Buena fell 56-49 to Ventura on Wednesday. Buena has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Buena still got an impressive performance from Luke Ortiz, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Ortiz is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last three games he's played. Josh ullegue was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Among those leading the charge was Parsa Kamali, who scored 18 points along with six assists and two steals. That's the first time this season that he grabbed two or more steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Travis Valenzuela, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and five steals.
Buena has been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 14 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season. As for Ventura, they pushed their record up to 6-11 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Buena will face off against Dos Pueblos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ventura, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Oxnard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Oxnard has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
