Washington Union is 1-9 against Kerman since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Washington Union Panthers take on Kerman Lions at 4:00 p.m. Washington Union is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Washington Union turned things around against Mt. Whitney on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Pioneers 6-5.
Cole Roth made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since March 5th. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
In other batting news, Davin Finderup was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. Trey Morris was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Kerman got the win against San Luis Obispo on Saturday by a conclusive 9-3. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Washington Union, Kerman also got a great game from a two-way player: Giovanni Gastelum. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave Gastelum a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Steven Luna, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Ayden Olivares, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Kerman is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. Washington Union's record now sits at 10-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Washington Union has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Kerman struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
