Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Lackey

Lackey had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against the La Plata Warriors by a score of 55-46. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Chargers also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

Lackey got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyzon Swann out in front who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Malik Gordon, who posted 13 points in addition to six assists and six steals.

Lackey smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Despite the defeat, La Plata saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Karon Allen scored 17 points along with six boards and five assists. Allen is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Makai Fitch was another key player, putting up six points.

Lackey has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for La Plata, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.

Lackey will challenge Great Mills at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Lackey's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests. As for La Plata, they will square off against North Point at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. North Point has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
