Basketball Recap: Severn School Falls Despite Big Games from Amyah Heyliger and Kendall Austin

It was a good run, but Severn School unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Broadneck Bruins an easy 50-28 win. The Admirals were not able to make up for their defeat to the Bruins from their previous meeting back in January of 2020.

Severn School's loss came despite strong showings from Kendall Austin and Amyah Heyliger. Austin posted seven points and five boards, while Heyliger put up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Severn School smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Leading Broadneck to victory were Macie Mcnece and London Best. Mcnece went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc on her way to 23 points, while Best went 6 of 12 on her way to 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals. That's the most steals Best has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelyn Kearns, who had five points along with five boards and five steals.

Severn School's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-2. As for Broadneck, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 4-2.

Severn School didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 54-43 win against Maryvale Prep on the 20th. Broadneck and Glenelg Country will round out the year against one another at at 12:30 p.m. on December 27th.
