Chavez is 0-6 against Kennedy since April of 2015 but things could change on Wednesday. The Eagles will head out to challenge the Cougars at 3:30 p.m. Chavez has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Chavez easily dispatched Poly on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Eagles fell just short of San Fernando by a score of 12-10 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Eagles have suffered since April 5th.
Chavez got a massive performance out of Alyssa Anaya, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Vida Gomez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Kennedy had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Mustangs.
Kennedy also got a great performance from Anais Perez as she didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Mia Salgado was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Leah Magallanes was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Chavez now has a losing record of 12-13. As for Kennedy, their record now sits at 15-8.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Chavez hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Kennedy struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chavez came up short against Kennedy in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 9-5. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
