The Apollo Eagles will be playing at home against the Daviess County Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Tuesday, Apollo came up short against Muhlenberg County and fell 58-48. Apollo has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Defeat or not, Apollo got some senior leadership from Jenna Dant and Jennifer Lee. Dant dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds, while Lee. dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of eight wins, Daviess County's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 64-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Owensboro Catholic. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Zoey Beehn, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Lane, who scored 19 points.
Apollo has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 16 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Daviess County, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-6.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Apollo have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Daviess County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Apollo was taken down by Daviess County 64-30 when the teams last played back in January. Will Apollo have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
