Even though the Liberty Lancers have not done well against the Fountain-Fort Carson Trojans recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Liberty walked away with a 53-40 victory over Fountain-Fort Carson. This was payback for Liberty, who suffered a 58-27 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Liberty to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ava Dawes, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Gardner, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Sahriah Smith and Daniella Bosmans certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Smith scored 12 points along with three steals, while Bosmans scored 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season.
Liberty has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Fountain-Fort Carson, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-3.
Liberty will head out on the road to take on Doherty at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Doherty's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups. As for Fountain-Fort Carson, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Rampart at 7:00 p.m. Fountain-Fort Carson is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 60.7 points per game this season.
