After two games on the road, 21st Century Charter is heading back home. They will take on the Bowman Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Saturday, 21st Century Charter didn't have too much trouble with Indianapolis Washington on the road as they won 84-70.
21st Century Charter relied on the efforts of Terrence Hayes, who scored 27 points along with 7 assists and 5 rebounds, and Lemetrius "Meachy" Williams, who dropped a triple-double on 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. That makes it two consecutive games in which Hayes has scored at least 25% of 21st Century Charter's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ron Mosely, who scored 18 points along with 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Bowman Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 70-64 to Hammond Central. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Saturday (62), Bowman Academy still had to take the loss.
Despite their defeat, Bowman Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Nickolas Black, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Black scored a full 34.4% of Bowman Academy's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Lamontae Cross was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with 7 steals and 6 assists.
The victory got 21st Century Charter back to even at 1-1. As for Bowman Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.
21st Century Charter strolled past Bowman Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a score of 81-65. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Bowman Academy's Leon Grimes, who scored 20 points.
