Porter Ridge pushed their score all the way to 58 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were the victim of a rough 78-58 defeat at the hands of Indian Land. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Tuesday (55), Porter Ridge still had to take the loss.
Porter Ridge's loss came about despite a quality game from Samaj Long, who scored 21 points. The game was Long's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Garrett Cox, who scored 13 points.
Even though they lost, Porter Ridge were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Indian Land only pulled down eight.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Independence had to settle for a 56-54 loss against South Mecklenburg on Thursday.
Despite the defeat, Independence got a solid performance out of Tosh Alberga, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 rebounds. Alberga is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Yancy Thomason was another key contributor, scoring 9 points.
The last time Porter Ridge won on the road was back last Tuesday. Having now lost three straight away matches, they've bumped their record down to 1-4. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Porter Ridge hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 56.8 points per game. It's a different story for Independence, though, as they've been averaging only 54.2 per game. The only thing between Porter Ridge and another offensive beatdown is Independence.
