Basketball Recap: Chilton's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Chilton hadn't done well against Moody recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Chilton Pirates narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Moody Bearcats 39-36. The win was some much needed relief for the Pirates as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Chilton was led to victory by Mariyah Suiters and Novia Coleman. Suiters dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten steals, while Coleman went 5 of 12 on her way to 13 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Suiters is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tatiyanna Sanchez, who posted five points and six rebounds.

Chilton's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 8-9. As for Moody, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.

Chilton will welcome Bruceville-Eddy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Chilton is facing Bruceville-Eddy at the right time seeing as Bruceville-Eddy is stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Moody, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Moody Bearcats face off against the Mart Panthers at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Mart's defense has only allowed 25.3 points per game this season, so Moody's offense will have their work cut out for them.
