The Greenfield-Central Cougars will head out to square off against the Mt. Vernon Marauders at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Greenfield-Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.

Greenfield-Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Yorktown on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 7-3 to the Tigers. The Cougars have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Savvanna Riall made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Josie White, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one run.

Fishers hit Mt. Vernon with a six-run second inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Marauders came up short against the Tigers, falling 16-4. The Marauders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Emma Jenkins was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Breanna Laffey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

Greenfield-Central's defeat dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Mt. Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9.

Mt. Vernon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Greenfield-Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Mt. Vernon, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Greenfield-Central's sizable advantage in that area, the Marauders will need to find a way to close that gap.

Greenfield-Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Mt. Vernon in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Marauders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
