Softball Game Preview: First Baptist Saints vs. Garland Christian Academy Swordsmen

The First Baptist Saints will square off against the Garland Christian Academy Swordsmen at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (First Baptist has 11 straight wins, Garland Christian Academy has ten straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Tuesday, First Baptist got the win against Texoma Christian by a conclusive 18-6. Fans of the Saints have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

The team relied heavily on Camila Rodriguez, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Kolbie Gillispie was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4.

First Baptist was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .560. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Garland Christian Academy came up short against Ovilla Christian back in March, falling 26-6.

First Baptist pushed their record up to 11-0 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 13.3 runs thus far. As for Garland Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.

Garland Christian Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: First Baptist hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .494. It's a different story for Garland Christian Academy, though, as they've only averaged .111. Will they be able to contain First Baptist's hitters?

Everything went First Baptist's way against Garland Christian Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as First Baptist made off with a 20-5 win. Will the Saints repeat their success, or do the Swordsmen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
