A Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) quarterback is the nation's all-time leader in high school football wins, but it's not the one you are thinking of. Yes, former Gael All-American Tate Martell makes the list with 45 wins, but it's four-year starter Jarrett Solomon who holds the all-time record with 56 victories.
Solomon began his career with a 15-0 record as a freshman in 2009 and added a 15-0 season as a junior. He also led the Gaels to a pair of 13-win seasons and four straight Nevada Class 4A state championships. Solomon heads MaxPreps' list of the Top 25 quarterbacks with the most high school wins as a starter.
If not for the coronavirus, Ty Keyes of Taylorville (Miss.) might have overtaken Solomon. Keyes posted three straight seasons of 15-1, but a shortened senior season that included a pair of forfeits limited Keyes to just 10 wins as a senior and a 55-4 career record.
The rest of the top five includes Nick Zachery of Sheridan (Ind.), who only threw for 1,832 yards in his four-year career, but also had 7,331 yards rushing and Lance Tucker of Fayette County (Ala.), who got his first win as a seventh-grader. Current Clemson quarterback and potential 2021 NFL No. 1 draft pick Trevor Lawrence of Cartersville (Ga.) is tied with Chris Leak of Independence (Charlotte, N.C.) and Ben Harris of Carl Albert (Midwest City, Okla.) Perry Cuda of Summerville (S.C.) for No. 5 with 52 wins.
Keyes is one of four quarterbacks to make the list this year. Harris added four state titles and a 52-2 record while Dematrius Davis of North Shore (Houston) has 49 wins and counting. North Shore won its first playoff game in the Class 6A state playoffs and could potentially win five more. That would put him in third place all-time with 54 wins.
Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders of Trinity Christian (Cedar Hill, Texas), the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, finished his career with 47.
A Texas quarterback holds the best all-time record, but again, it's not the one you are thinking of. While Kyler Murray has gained fame for a tremendous high school career that included a 42-0 career record, it's Roshaud Paul of Bremond who had the best career record at 47-0.
