Virginia Episcopal School hasn't had much luck against Carlisle recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Bishops will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chiefs at 4:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Wednesday.
Virginia Episcopal School is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Hargrave Military Academy on Monday as they made off with a 24-1 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Bishops, who have now won three contests in a row.
Jack Mitchell made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all six of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Nate Gobble and Lawrence Dempsey did most of the damage at the plate: Gobble went 4-for-6 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs, while Dempsey scored five runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those five runs gave Dempsey a new career-high. Nash Watson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Virginia Episcopal School always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .735. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, while Carlisle put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Roanoke Catholic. The Chiefs put the hurt on the Celtics with a sharp 17-0 victory. The Chiefs haven't had any issues with the Celtics recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Like Virginia Episcopal School, Carlisle also got a great game from a two-way player: Blake Parsons. On the mound, Parsons pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Cole Scarce struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Carlisle is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-3 otherwise. At bat, Parsons scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Scarce scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those hits were Parsons' first of the season.
In other batting news, Carlisle let Casey Thomas and Luke Carter run wild. Thomas scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3, while Carter scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Thomas is becoming a predictor of Carlisle's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Ben Wood, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
The victory got Carlisle back to even at 4-4. As for Virginia Episcopal School, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.
Carlisle's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Virginia Episcopal School hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. It's a different story for Carlisle, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain Virginia Episcopal School's hitters?
