The Thomas Heyward Academy Rebels will head out on the road to face off against the Coastal HomeSchool Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Thomas Heyward Academy couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell to Memorial Day 60-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Thomas Heyward Academy saw an underclassman step up: Tony Obanner dropped a double-double on 34 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelan Fripp, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Coastal HomeSchool's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 82-45 loss at the hands of Hilton Head Christian Academy. Coastal HomeSchool was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-21.
Despite the loss, Coastal HomeSchool got a solid performance out of Micah Faith, who scored 18 points along with 5 rebounds. Faith scored a full 40% of Coastal HomeSchool's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Hayden Brackett was another key contributor, scoring 6 points.
Even though they lost, Coastal HomeSchool were working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hilton Head Christian Academy only racked up 19.
Thomas Heyward Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Coastal HomeSchool, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Thomas Heyward Academy suffered a grim 68-48 defeat to Coastal HomeSchool in their previous matchup back in November of 2018. Thankfully for Thomas Heyward Academy, Brett Collins (who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 10 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
