Whitmire hasn't had much luck against Dixie recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. Having just played yesterday, the Whitmire Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the Dixie Hornets at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Whitmire is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind 75-5. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while the Hornets are ranked 622nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brooklynn Babb was her usual excellent self, going 16 for 24 on her way to 32 points along with five assists and four steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Whitmire's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brantlee Roche, who posted nine points and seven assists.
They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Whitmire was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 0 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 5.9.
Meanwhile, Dixie entered their tilt with Calhoun Falls Charter on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They strolled past the Blue Flashes with points to spare, taking the game 36-22.
Dixie's win came from a few key players Whitmire will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was LaNya Dotson, who put up 13 points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points. Kerrie O'Shields was another key player, putting up 11 points.
Whitmire's victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-14. As for Dixie, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season.
Whitmire was taken down by Dixie 51-22 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of O'Shields, who earned 24 points and four steals. Now that Whitmire knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
