Riverside is 1-9 against Briar Woods since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Having just played yesterday, the Riverside Ram will head out on the road to face off against the Briar Woods Falcons at 7:15 p.m. on January 25th. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Lightridge scored an imposing 58 points on Wednesday, Riverside still came out on top. Riverside slipped by Lightridge 59-58. The win was just what Riverside needed coming off of a 60-40 loss in their prior matchup.
Meanwhile, Briar Woods put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 68-44 margin over Potomac Falls. Given Briar Woods' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Potomac Falls is ranked 129th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Hope Drake, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and two steals. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. Tia Chen was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven assists and six steals.
Riverside's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Briar Woods, their victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1.
Riverside ended up a good deal behind Briar Woods in their previous matchup on January 8th, losing 81-63. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Drake, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds.
