Carson is 8-2 against Banning since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Colts will square off against the Pilots at 3:15 p.m. Carson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season.
Carson can't be too worried about heading out to take on Banning: they just beat Narbonne at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Colts blew past the Gauchos 18-1 two weeks ago. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Colts.
Isabella Campos and Giselle Pantoja dominated on the mound. Campos tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits, while Pantoja struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Campos has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Carson let Rylee Gardner and Ruby Grajeda run wild. Gardner got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Grajeda went 2-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Grajeda has posted since back in March. Kiarah Chukwudi also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Carson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive matches.
Palos Verdes hit Banning with a four-run second inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pilots lost 16-6 to the Sea Kings. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Pilots have suffered since March 21st.
Joliene Pina and Alina Argueta stepped up to the plate in a big way. Pina went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Argueta went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kali Sue, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Carson's record is now 14-1-1. As for Banning, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.
Banning's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Carson has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. It's a different story for Banning, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Carson's sizable advantage in that area, the Pilots will need to find a way to close that gap.
Carson took their win against Banning in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 9-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Colts since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
