Cordova is 0-4 against McClatchy since March of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. The Cordova Lancers will host the McClatchy Lions at 4:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Cordova sitting on three straight victories and McClatchy on six.
Cordova is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Galt 11-1 on Monday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
The team relied heavily on Gabriel Bargas, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bro Ahlstrom, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Meanwhile, McClatchy got themselves on the board against Bear Creek on Wednesday, but Bear Creek never followed suit. They were the clear victor by a 12-0 margin over the Bruins. The match marked the Lions' most dominant win of the season so far.
Ari Silva made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Elias Ortega was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Antonio Barber was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
McClatchy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bear Creek only posted an OBP of .176.
McClatchy's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cordova, the win got them back to even at 3-3-1.
Cordova suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to McClatchy when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Cordova avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
