Softball Recap: Aiken Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Aiken had lost seven games straight , but after bumping their record up to 2-13 on Monday that streak is in the rearview. They had just enough and edged out the Dreher Blue Devils 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Fighting Green Hornets have posted since March 24th.

Aiken saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Weimer Kate, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Aiken was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dreher only posted a batting average of .231.

As for Dreher, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9. They haven't had much luck with Aiken recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

On Dreher's side, Anna Coates put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Coates has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kendall Gipson was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Kari Denard was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

Looking ahead, Aiken will welcome South Aiken at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Thoroughbreds have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.33 runs per game on average), something the Fighting Green Hornets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Dreher, they are taking a road trip to face off against A.C. Flora at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight.
