San Rafael is 2-8 against San Marin since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field against the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
San Rafael took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Archie Williams 2-1. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
San Rafael saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cruz Wexler, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double.
Meanwhile, San Marin had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Trojans 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted against the Trojans since April 23, 2021.
Tanner O'Keefe tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because San Marin is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 6-7 otherwise.
At the plate, Sean McGrath and Hugh Brady did most of the damage at the plate: McGrath went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Brady went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. That's the most RBI McGrath has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Joey Cipollina, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
San Marin's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-7. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for San Rafael, their win bumped their record up to 10-11.
San Rafael might still be hurting after the 13-6 defeat they got from San Marin when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
