The Columbia Academy Bulldogs won the last time they faced the Battle Ground Academy Wildcats, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Columbia Academy walked away with a 59-51 win over Battle Ground Academy.
Columbia Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Reese Shirley out in front who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. Shirley also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Charley Rae Hutchison, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Battle Ground Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abby Mclay, who scored 22 points along with two steals. Mclay continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Dj Haws was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven rebounds.
Columbia Academy's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-10. As for Battle Ground Academy, their loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-10.
Columbia Academy will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Fairview at 6:00 p.m. on January 11th. As for Battle Ground Academy, they will be playing at home against Franklin Road Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Franklin Road Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Battle Ground Academy in Tennessee (Franklin Road Academy is ranked 128th, while Battle Ground Academy is ranked 265th).
