Football Recap: Sierra Canyon Skates Past Orange Lutheran with Ease + How To Watch

Sierra Canyon faced Orange Lutheran in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Trailblazers claimed a resounding 41-9 win over the Lancers. Fans of the Trailblazers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Sierra Canyon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaxsen Stokes, who rushed for 48 yards and three TDs, and also picked up 39 receiving yards. Laird Finkel was another key passer, throwing for 273 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt.

Sierra Canyon didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kasi Currie and Madden Riordan. Riordan also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with six. Sierra Canyon got some further help from Mikhal Johnson: he picked up two sacks and made five total tackles.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Sierra Canyon, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Havon Finney Jr., who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Sierra Canyon's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points over those games. As for Orange Lutheran, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After each having a week off, Sierra Canyon and Serra will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. This will be the Trailblazers' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Orange Lutheran, they will welcome Mater Dei at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. The match will also give the Lancers their first taste of in-conference action this season.
