Baseball Recap: Hillsboro Has No Trouble Against Overton

Hillsboro was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. Everything went their way against the Overton Bobcats as they made off with a 10-1 victory. Considering the Burros have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Cyrus Conner made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-5.

In other batting news, Hillsboro let Drake McDowell and Michael Gooch, Jr run wild. McDowell scored two runs while going 3-for-5, while Gooch, Jr scored three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Hillsboro is undefeated when Gooch, Jr posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Andrew Hull was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Hillsboro and bumps their season record up to 16-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Overton, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 15-11.

Looking ahead, Hillsboro will head out to face off against East Nashville Magnet at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Burros will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games. As for Overton, they will host Stewarts Creek at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
