Campbell Howard made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Caden Godsie and Jack Mitchell did most of the damage at the plate: Godsie scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Mitchell scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Lawrence Dempsey was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base.
Virginia Episcopal School hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Roanoke Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch last Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of Hargrave Military Academy.
William Poff made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-4. Orlando Portillo also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Virginia Episcopal School's record is now 6-4. As for Roanoke Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
Roanoke Catholic's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Virginia Episcopal School has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431. It's a different story for Roanoke Catholic, though, as they've only averaged .364. Will they be able to contain Virginia Episcopal School's hitters?
