The Kenwood Broncos are taking a road trip to take on the Von Steuben Panthers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Kenwood came out on top against Brooks on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Broncos were the clear victors by an 11-2 margin over the Eagles. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Broncos' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Zach Asiyanbi tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over six innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Damaurion Butler was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Kenwood is 1-0-2 when Butler posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brandon Stinson, who went 4-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Von Steuben got the win against Taft on Friday by a conclusive 12-2. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by seven runs or more this season.
Christian Kobayashi was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Von Steuben got a massive performance out of Kayin Timble, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave Timble a new career-high. George Allen also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Von Steuben was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Von Steuben now has a winning record of 7-6-2. As for Kenwood, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2-1 and their overall record up to 2-5-2.
Everything went Kenwood's way against Von Steuben in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, as Kenwood made off with a 15-4 win. Will the Broncos repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
