Harlan is 7-1 against the Mustangs since December of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Harlan Hawks will head out on the road to take on the Jay Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Harlan can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They put the hurt on Holmes with a sharp 69-49 victory. Given Harlan's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 136th, while the Huskies are ranked 547th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Harlan's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alexa Romero, who scored 14 points along with two steals. Romero has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaitlin Mendoza, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Jay had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 55-37 win over Holmes.
Harlan has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-11 record this season. As for Jay, they pushed their record up to 23-10 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Harlan didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the Mustangs when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 51-46 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Harlan since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
