The Maplewood Rockets were the 57-33 winner over the Mineral Ridge Rams when they last played one another back in January of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. Maplewood was beaten by Mineral Ridge 74-33 on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Maplewood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 580th, while Mineral Ridge is ranked 251st).
Several Rockets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Morgan Himes, who scored 12 points. Aliah Brumit was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Ava Hulett continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mineral Ridge, scoring 25 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Hulett hasn't dropped below 20 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Gilbert, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Maplewood has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. As for Mineral Ridge, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-2.
Maplewood will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Pymatuning Valley at 4:15 p.m. Mineral Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
