Even though the St. John's Islanders have not done well against the Charleston Math & Science Riptide recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. St. John's walked away with a 45-38 win over Charleston Math & Science. St. John's didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this victory makes it their second in a row.
St. John's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tr?Sean White, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds. The match was White's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Cam Beal, who scored ten points.
Several Riptide players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tyler Simmons, who scored 18 points. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for him. Ben Gilliard was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
St. John's win bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Charleston Math & Science, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-6.
St. John's will take on Military Magnet Academy at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Military Magnet Academy is ranked 242nd, while St. John's is ranked 256th). As for Charleston Math & Science, they will head out on the road to face off against Lowcountry Leadership at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
