It was a good run, but the Lafayette Hornets unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They were dealt a 60-21 defeat at the hands of Trenton. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Lafayette has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Lafayette still got an impressive performance from Ella Hancock, who scored nine points along with five rebounds. Hancock has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Lafayette struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Trenton racked up 17 assists.
Nyima Gillyard continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Trenton, scoring 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The game was Gillyard's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Koi Perry, who scored nine points along with six steals and five assists.
Lafayette's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Trenton, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1.
Lafayette will be home for the holidays to greet Branford at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Branford will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 573rd, while Lafayette is ranked 158th). As for Trenton, they will head out on the road to face off against Chiefland at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
