The St. Stephens Indians waltzed into their match Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Maiden by a score of 79-70. The victory was all the more spectacular given St. Stephens' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while Maiden is ranked 105th).
St. Stephens' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Javian White, who scored 22 points along with nine assists and five rebounds. That's the first time this season that White posted eight or more assists. Hayden Hillman was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with three steals.
St. Stephens is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Maiden, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 7-3.
St. Stephens and Hickory will face off at 7:30 p.m. on December 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Averaging 76.9 so far this season, Hickory's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so St. Stephens better be ready for a challenge.
