Kennedy is 2-8 against Burbank since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Kennedy Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Burbank Titans at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Friday, Kennedy ended up a good deal behind Laguna Creek and lost 68-53. Kennedy has not had much luck with Laguna Creek recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite their loss, Kennedy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Aharon Young, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Eric Lopez, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Burbank's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 86-64 walloping at the hands of Monterey Trail. While losing is never fun, Burbank can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while Monterey Trail is ranked 32nd).
Burbank's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Michael Butcher, who scored 17 points along with four steals, and Paris Clay who scored 20 points along with two steals. Clay is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Markus Butcher, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds.
Kennedy's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Burbank, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-6.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Kennedy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 59.5 points per game. It's a different story for Burbank, though, as they've been averaging only 60.5 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Kennedy came up short against Burbank when the teams last played on January 6th, falling 57-49. Can Kennedy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
