Baseball Recap: Raymondville Wins Going Away Against Santa Rosa

Raymondville barely beat Santa Rosa the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Raymondville put the hurt on Santa Rosa with a sharp 11-1 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Bearkats, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Noel Reta was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, Diego Villegas was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Sosa, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and one stolen base.

Raymondville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Raymondville's victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Santa Rosa, they dropped their record down to 2-7 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Raymondville will challenge Harlingen at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last three games Harlingen has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Santa Rosa, they will face off against Lyford at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lyford's pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so Santa Rosa's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
