The Eastern Eagles will take on the Northwest Mohawks at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Eastern's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Glenwood with a sharp 27-0 win. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Kelly Wells and Leah Rader were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Wells tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Rader struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Wells scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while Rader scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs Wells has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Aubrey Quillen was incredible, scoring five runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Park, who scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Northwest came tearing into Tuesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Oaks as they made off with an 11-0 win.
Like Eastern, Northwest also got a great game from a two-way player: Annika Carpenter. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Carpenter was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Lauren Copp was a standout: she scored three runs while going 1-for-3. Joshline Sanford was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Northwest's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Eastern, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
Eastern came up short against Northwest in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, falling 11-8. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
