Given Dana Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while El Toro is ranked 271st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dana Hills found their leader in underclassman Kayla Rice, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Rice has scored at least 25% of Dana Hills' points. Regan Akason was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five assists and three steals.
Dana Hills' victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-3. As for El Toro, their loss dropped their record down to 12-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dana Hills will face off against Mission Viejo at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mission Viejo has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 14. As for El Toro, they will head out on the road to face off against Capistrano Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Capistrano Valley is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
