The Loyalton Grizzlies waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They really took it to Plumas Charter for the full four quarters, racking up a 68-35 win at home. Loyalton has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 21 points or more this season.
Loyalton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sophie Holland led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Holland has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Catherine Petterson, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
When it comes to explaining why Plumas Charter lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kali Banks. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points. Lucy Joseph was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Loyalton is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Plumas Charter, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Loyalton will head out on the road to challenge Chester at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Loyalton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully Chester likes a good challenge. As for Plumas Charter, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Westwood at 5:30 p.m. on February 6th.
