Baseball Game Preview: Landon Bears vs. St. Stephen's & St. Agnes Saints

For the second straight game, Landon will face off against St. Stephen's & St. Agnes. The Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Saints at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Landon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Landon made up a huge gap compared to their last game against St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bears were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Saints on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

James Gibson was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Landon's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zach Burstein, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Josh Burstein was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Landon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Landon's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for St. Stephen's & St. Agnes, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.
