Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 12 more assists than your opponent, a fact the Banneker Bulldogs proved on Friday. They greeted the New Year with with a 62-43 win over Ron Brown. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Banneker also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
It was another big night for Doran Clausell, who scored 19 points along with five steals and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Carter Burley, who scored 12 points along with five steals.
Ron Brown's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matheno Nichols, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Hunter Brown was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Banneker's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Ron Brown, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.
Banneker will head out on the road to square off against Coolidge at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Coolidge is on a four-game streak of home wins, Banneker a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. Ron Brown will take on Woodson at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in District of Columbia (Woodson is ranked 26th, while Ron Brown is ranked 32nd).
